WMATA To Perform Maintenance Work on Red and Green Lines

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Crews will perform maintenance and make repairs on WMATA’s Red and Green Lines from June 8-9.

During this time, trains will serve 93 of 98 stations, and the Yellow Line service will extend to Greenbelt to give passengers additional service during planned weekend events.

WMATA reports on its Green Line, crews will replace rail ties, perform deck water proofing, repair grout pads, and clear surrounding vegetation. On its Red Line, the closure continues for the Maryland Transit Administration Purple Line Project. 

On the Red Line, crews will replace switch machines and interlocking, perform tie renewal, repair grout pads, remove vegetation, replace roofing, renew fasteners and rails, eliminate joints, conduct tunnel leak mitigation, install digital screens, replace power cables, perform escalator maintenance, and make general safety repairs.
