We will start off in Ann Arbor, Mich., where workers installed a culvert under a railroad corridor in a 37-hour window.

Work continues on the Mount Washington Cog Railway in New Hampshire. A re-railing car was purchased. The rail car is completely enclosed but open to the tracks below, and is equipped with hydraulic tools and an overhead crane. The new car is currently being used to re-rail the entire 3-mile route to the summit. New 100-lb rail will replace the existing 25-lb rail and wooden sidepieces. Photos by Jay Philbrick.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s Green Line Extension continues to move along. Below is a view of the Lechmere Viaduct stretching north from Boston, with framing for the relocated Lechmere Station on the right.

In Minnesota, the Metropolitan Council’s Southwest LRT construction project is more than just about light rail. When the South Cedar Lake Trail reopens, bikers and pedestrians will be able to safely travel under vehicle traffic to cross Wooddale Avenue. The underpass has taken shape and crews are completing the tunnel form, and then will reconstruct Wooddale Avenue. The roadway is expected to open to traffic by early June.

Pikes Peak is full of activity these days. Construction crews have started laying track for the new $100 million Cog Railway, and is on schedule to open in May 2021.
