Ottawa is getting serious with its port upgrades so another supply chain crisis can be avoided.

The U.S. DOT is determined to remedy the supply chain infrastructure.

The agency came to terms with a loan agreement with the state of California that will be used to improve transportation corridors, especially related to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The Emerging Projects Agreement will use Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act and Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing loan programs to put together a massive slate of projects in California that will benefit the state and the country’s supply chain.

The projects could range from expanding capacity for freight rail to reducing the number of rail-street intersections and improving safety and efficiency through grade-separated crossings.

Officials also said projects will be funded quicker because they will move through the approval process together as a group instead of separately.
