Buses replace trains as Cleveland RTA upgrades crossings

Written by Administrator

February 14, 2001 Because of extensive grade crossing work, shuttle buses will replace trains for several weekends on the light rail Blue and Green lines this spring. The lines are operated by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. During this time, workers will replace existing grade crossings, track and sidewalks with a new concrete crossing surface, asphalt road approaches, new track and new concrete sidewalks.

Transit riders will enjoy
increased safety, while both transit riders and car drivers will appreciate a
smoother ride.

Starting after the
evening rush hour April 30 and continuing through May 13, work will shutdown on
the Lynnfield Road crossing on the Blue Line. The crossing will be closed to
auto traffic the entire time. Shuttle buses will replace trains between Shaker
Square and the Warrensville Road station all along the Blue Line on the weekend
of May 1-2.

Future Green Line
crossings are tentatively scheduled as follows:

• The Coventry Road
crossing will be closed to auto traffic from May 14-27. On May 15-16, it will
be closed to rail traffic, and shuttle buses will replace trains.

• The Attleboro Road
crossing will be closed to auto traffic June 4-17. On June 5-6, it will be
closed to rail traffic and shuttle buses will replace trains.
