After a year, it appears that the Maryland Purple Line project will finally have a new contractor lined up in early 2022.

After nearly three years of problems since construction began in 2017, and the resignation of the contractor last year when the project was over two years behind, project leadership is now saying they should have a new contractor on the ground by February 2022. The original plan called for the Purple Line to be ready for passengers in March 2022.

The new contractor is scheduled to be selected by the end of 2021. Once the new contractor is in place, officials will be able to report how much the remainder of the project will cost, and schedule a possible completion date.

RT&S Editor-in-Chief Bill Wilson has done most of the reporting of the torturous few years of the Purple Line project. You can read his stories and more about the line on our website.
