WILMERDING, Pa. — The Pittsburg Post-Gazette has reported that Wabtec Corp. will lay off 94 workers in the first quarter of 2024 with the closure of it’s Wilmerding plant, which is set to occur on or before July 1.

The Post-Gazette said that Marissa Wiley, Wabtec’s human resources manager, reported in the company’s WARN notice (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification), which requires companies to notify the state at least 60 days in advance of worker layoffs or plant closings, that layoffs should start around February or March “and will be ongoing until the plant is fully shutdown, likely by July 1, 2024.”

Wabtec began as the Westinghouse Air Brake Company, which began operation in 1869.

The facility was the home of Westinghouse Air Brake, renamed Wabco, then Wabtec.
