Last week, RT&S reported on its website news service that GATX Corporation, one of the world’s largest freight car and locomotive lessors, is suing the Georgia Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company, for damage to rail cars that the electric utility had leased from GATX. GATX said that the cars suffered “substantial corrosion damage that is not ordinary wear and tear.”

In an email to RT&S on Friday, Georgia Power Company spokesperson John Kraft provided the following statement about the suit:

“We are aware of the lawsuit filed by GATX and believe that the claims have no merit. Georgia Power will vigorously defend itself in this case.”

RT&S will continue to follow this story and report on developments as warranted.
