RailWorks Corp., North America’s leading rail infrastructure solutions provider, was awarded a contract to provide its market-leading track and maintenance services for Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) Metro SubwayLink and Light RailLink Divisions.

RailWorks, via its Track Services subsidiary, was selected to perform all minor, major and preventive track maintenance, and emergency response services on the 77 miles of Metro SubwayLink and Light RailLink track within the MDOT MTA system. The three- year contract includes options for two one-year extensions.

The MDOT MTA’s Light RailLink and Metro SubwayLink network enables vital transportation services in the congested region, providing connections to Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor service and to the region’s airports. The MDOT MTA’s 47-track-mile Light RailLink network provides service from Hunt Valley to Glen Burnie with spurs serving BWI Thurgood International Airport and Penn Station in Baltimore. Metro SubwayLink is a 30 track-mile third rail system that provides service from Owings Mills in Baltimore County to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore City.

The diverse MDOT MTA network includes ballasted track, grade shared right-of-way track, nearly 50 stations, 43 grade crossings, about 130 mainline switches, approximately two miles of at grade shared right-of-way, among other features.

“RailWorks excels at this type of long-term maintenance service contract, providing comprehensive services for customers in Toronto and Los Angeles, among others. We continue to grow market share in this area, and we elevate the market in outsourced maintenance contracts,” said Kevin Riddett, RailWorks President and CEO.

“This complex project represents the strength of depth and breadth of services RailWorks brings to its customers – maintenance and inspection services across a diverse network of different kinds of track,” Riddett added.
