MEXICO –– The Mexican government body Attrapi has awarded a joint venture of Sonda and Siemens Mobility a Pesos 3.84bn ($US 220m) four-year contract to supply ETCS Level 1 signalling for the Mexico City - Querétaro - Irapuato passenger line.

Attrapi was formally established in January by the federal government to coordinate the planning, development and construction of passenger rail projects. The signalling contract follows a design and build infrastructure contract awarded earlier this month for the under-construction Querétaro – Irapuato section of the 360km Mexico City – Irapuato line.

Under the latest contract, Siemens will design, supply, install and commission the signalling system, including an operations control centre (OCC), along with a backup OCC, and Scada systems for real-time infrastructure supervision. Siemens will also implement TPS.plan, a software solution developed by its subsidiary HaCon, to optimise service planning by leveraging microscopic infrastructure modelling to create conflict-free timetables.

Joint venture partner Sonda will provide telecommunications and CCTV systems, and undertake civil works.

“The Mexico City – Querétaro – Irapuato corridor will not only improve regional transport but will also support Mexico’s sustainable development goals by modernising its passenger rail infrastructure,” says Marc Ludwig, CEO rail infrastructure at Siemens Mobility.
