Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will start the process to hand over the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe trestle bridge to the city of Dallas.

DART says that the bridge structure, which is adjacent to the Moore Park and DART’s Red and Blue Line light rail bridges, no longer is needed to serve the agency’s needs and will be turning the structure over to Dallas for non-cash considerations. Specifics of the deal are not known at this time.

The city of Dallas has been wanting to own the bridge ever since the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Project for Floodway Control came to the conclusion that removing the span would help reduce flood risk and enhance the ecosystem in the Dallas Trinity River Corridor.
