HONOLULU – HART has issued a safety advisory now the third rail is energized from Aloha Stadium Station to Middle Street Station.

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) announced the third rail for the second operating segment of its Skyline rail system is energized, as of June 17, 2024. HART says this milestone allows certain testing along the section of the system to now take place. Once testing begins, trains will move along the rail guideway “from the Aloha Stadium Station, past the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and Pearl Harbor to the Middle Street Station.” This segment is expected to open in late 2025.

HART issued a safety advisory as the energized third rail that provides power to the trains has 750 volts of electricity. In the advisory, HART “emphasizes that any contact with the third rail poses an immediate fatality risk.” Stations and the guideway along the second segment remain active work zones. HART advises the public to keep off the rail track and that automated trains can move forward and backward without warning. Additionally, the public is also advised not to attempt cutting or hopping fences to enter the area as the system is equipped with more than 1,500 security cameras.
