Komatsu Mining Corp.’s new facility in the city of Milwaukee will have a new railroad spur.

Milwaukee’s Public Works Committee approved $1 million in state funding for the construction of the rail line, which Komatsu will use to distribute product and receive materials. The railroad spur will connect with existing Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific railroad tracks near the intersection of South Water Street and East Washington Street.

The $2.4 million railroad spur is expected to be complete in the fall, and Komatsu has agreed to cover any additional costs. In exchange for the railroad spur, the manufacturer will retain 697 jobs for at least seven years.

Construction of Komatsu’s 53-acre facility began last year and is on schedule to be complete in 2022.
