ATLANTA –– Norfolk Southern reached a significant construction milestone in Ohio, completing a railroad bridge replacement in Conneaut. This replacement marks the completion of several major Ohio infrastructure projects undertaken in 2023, which included ones in Campbellstown and Circleville.

Located between Cleveland and Buffalo, the Conneaut Bridge is one of NS’s busiest bridges in the state, with approximately 20 trains crossing it daily. The existing 1,320-foot bridge was completely replaced with a new 1,300-foot bridge. The new structure is expected to last for 100+ years.

“The Conneaut Bridge replacement is an investment in safety, Ohio, and our customers,” said Ed Boyle, VP Engineering. “This project represents progress, efficiency, and a continued commitment to providing safe, reliable, and resilient service throughout our network in the Buckeye State.”

In conjunction with the Conneaut Bridge replacement, NS replaced a three-span open deck bridge in Circleville and built extended, crossing-free railroad sections in Campbellstown, located between Muncie and Cincinnati. All projects are part of NS’s $1 billion annual investment in its infrastructure, which ensures safe and efficient delivery of freight to customers throughout our 22-state network.
