MTA’s F and M Lines Regular Service To Be Restored April 1st After Track Replacement Work

NEW YORK CITY – In Manhattan and Queens, MTA workers completed track replacement and a station re-NEW-vation. Regular service will resume on both lines on April 1st.

Starting April 1^st, regular service will be restored to MTA’s F and M Lines after crews completed track replacement work in Manhattan and Queens. Between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center in Manhattan and 36 St in Queens is currently receiving track work that is expected to be finished by the end of March. By completing this project, the MTA hopes to mitigate leaks and prevent future corrosion and deterioration. As part of the track work, crews “removed existing tracks and constructed new concrete roadbed and track; installed 25,643 feet of new third rail with protection board, brackets and insulators; removed and replaced cables; installed new signals; repaired spalled concrete and cracks, and sealed active leaks.”

Additionally, MTA reports it has completed a Re-NEW-vation project at the station at 57 St. During the project, workers changed all of the light fixtures over to LED bulbs “and installed new fixtures to help brighten the entire station.” The Re-NEW-vation work also included:

• Scraping, priming, and repainting station surfaces
• Removing outdated signage
• Repairing and replacing wall tiles
• Inspecting all stairway treads and repairing where necessary.
