The next new section of the Merchants Bridge will be put into place next year.

Railway Track & Structures magazine has obtained time-lapse video of the first truss removal and the first new truss installation of the Merchants Bridge in St. Louis.

The Merchants Bridge is one of the most significant rail spans in the country, handling 32 freight trains a day and 150 million gross tons per year.

Along with the replacement of the three main spans, the existing piers are being seismically retrofitted. The next span lift is expected to take place in March 2022, and the entire project is listed to be complete in mid-2023.

The first video shows truss section removal on the existing bridge, while the second video shows the lift of the new section.
